Nikos Tsafos addresses European gas prices and Greek energy infrastructure

Greek Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy Nikos Tsafos has addressed key energy concerns at both the European and national levels. During an ad hoc session of the European Task Force, Tsafos raised questions regarding speculative pressures in the natural gas market, noting the paradox of higher prices during summer months compared to the upcoming winter despite typically higher winter demand.

Tsafos suggested that Europe's gas supply security is more stable than market sentiment implies, characterizing the recent price surges as an extreme reaction to actual data. He also called for continuous monitoring of water levels in river stations, such as the Danube, to ensure the stable operation of nuclear power plants.

On a domestic level, speaking at the Thessaloniki International Fair, Tsafos highlighted the radical improvement in Greece's energy profile. He emphasized the country's growing role in electricity production and exports, driven by high renewable energy penetration and critical infrastructure projects like the Bulgaria interconnecting pipeline and the Alexandroupolis FSRU. Future priorities include investing in energy networks, island interconnections, digitalization, and energy storage.
