Nikós Papás urges Syriza leadership rethink ahead of elections

Syriza MP Nikós Papás criticised the party’s current strategy, saying it was "decided in a vacuum" and that the leadership failed to assess emerging data. He blamed the party’s senior leadership for the poor poll numbers and pointed to former prime‑minister Alex Tsipras’ recent comments as a catalyst for re‑examining Syriza’s direction.

Papás said the party must update its strategy at the Central Committee meeting on 11 July and suggested that broader cooperation with other left‑wing forces, such as New Left and the forces behind Luca Katseli, could be explored, while dismissing alliances with figures like Giannis Varoufakis. He warned that without a strategic overhaul the party risks remaining marginal ahead of the Thessaloniki International Fair and upcoming national elections.
