Nilden Bektaş Erhürman addresses climate crisis at Gaziantep forum

Nilden Bektaş Erhürman participated in the ‘Women Leading Forum’ held in Gaziantep as part of the Climate, Environment, and Women COP31 meetings. The event was organized through a collaboration between the Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality and UN Women.

During the forum, Erhürman emphasized that climate change is no longer a future prediction but a present reality affecting agriculture, food, health, and the economy. She specifically noted that Cyprus is experiencing the effects of the climate crisis more severely due to its location in the Eastern Mediterranean, citing rising temperatures of 40-45 degrees Celsius, decreased rainfall, and increasing drought.

She highlighted that these environmental shifts are placing significant pressure on limited water resources and making water and food security increasingly critical issues.
