Nilüfer City Council warns of risks in Bursa waste project
The Nilüfer City Council has raised alarms regarding a proposed solid waste integrated facility planned between Kayapa and Kuruçeşme in Bursa. Following the release of a 53-page technical report by the TMMOB Chamber of Environmental Engineers (ÇMO), the Council stated that the project poses significant risks to the city, including proximity to active fault lines and potential threats to drinking water basins.
Nilüfer City Council President Mustafa Berkay Aydın criticized the haste of the project, noting that the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) period is nearing its end despite the lack of a concrete implementation project. He argued that the investment relies on outdated technology and data from a decade ago. The Council is calling for a transparent, democratic, and participatory process that considers long-term projections for the city rather than rushing the decision.
