Nilüfer Literature Museum in Bursa showcases rare Turkish literary artifacts

The Nilüfer Municipality Literature Museum in Bursa, Turkey, has become a significant cultural hub, attracting 18,000 visitors within nine months of its recent reporting period. Opened in 2018 in a restored historical building in the Gümüştepe (Misi) neighborhood, it stands as the first and only museum in Turkey dedicated to multiple writers.

The museum houses items belonging to 240 different writers, poets, and authors. Notable exhibits include a hat belonging to Yaşar Kemal, an unpublished book sketch by Adalet Ağaoğlu, handwritten poems by Behçet Necatgil, and handwritten works and Sofia-printed books by Nazım Hikmet. Other personal items on display include glasses, pens, and alarm clocks belonging to Fazıl Hüsnü Dağlarca.

The museum's archive contains 2,500 documents and photographs. Its letter room features 50 original handwritten letters between figures such as Cemal Süreya, Rıfat Ilgaz, Attila İlhan, and Halet Çambel, with an additional 800 letters available in digital format. The oldest item in the collection is the Nilüfer magazine, dating back to 1887.
