Nilüfer Municipality opens animal welfare center in Bursa

Nilüfer Municipality has established the Umut Ağacı Sahipsiz Hayvanlar Doğal Yaşam ve Sahiplendirme Merkezi, a new natural life and adoption center for stray animals located in the Karacaoba neighborhood of Bursa.

Spanning 49,500 square meters, the facility is designed to accommodate up to 3,000 animals. The center focuses on high animal welfare standards, featuring specialized ground structures, shaded areas, observation points, and spaces for animals to hide or roam freely.

To ensure scientific standards in diagnosis, treatment, sterilization, and vaccination, the municipality has signed a protocol with the Bursa Uludağ University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. Expert veterinarians and trained staff will manage the health and rehabilitation processes with academic support.

As part of a symbolic tradition, citizens who adopt an animal from the center can tie a memorial ribbon to a tree on the premises to commemorate the animal's journey to a new home.
