Nilgiris: Man-eating tiger kills two in Oveli Larston
A man-eating tiger has killed and consumed two people in the Oveli Larston area of the Nilgiris district, causing widespread fear among local residents.
The first victim, a worker named Balakrishnan, was killed on the 9th while attempting to repair a water pipe near a private coffee plantation. The second victim, a farmer named Ravichandran, was attacked and killed on Wednesday afternoon. In both instances, the tiger reportedly consumed parts of the victims' bodies.
Local residents have staged protests, accusing the forest department of negligence and failing to provide adequate protection. While officials claimed to be monitoring the tiger via drone cameras, locals expressed frustration, stating that the tiger may be elderly or injured, which has impacted its hunting patterns. Forest officials have stated they are working to identify the specific tiger and will escalate the matter to higher authorities for immediate action.
