Nilópolis conducts mental health awareness initiative

The Nilópolis Municipal Government, through the Secretariat of Social Development and the Specialized Reference Center for Social Assistance (CREAS), conducted a mental health awareness initiative at the Restaurante do Povo. The action was part of the ‘Setembro Amarelo’ (Yellow September) campaign, a Brazilian movement established in 2015 by the Brazilian Psychiatric Association and the Federal Council of Medicine to prevent suicide and reduce the stigma surrounding mental disorders.

During the event, psychologists and social workers engaged with approximately one thousand people receiving meals. The initiative aimed to promote the value of life and connect the local population with municipal psychological and social support services. Nutritionist Deborah Freire, the restaurant manager, suggested the action to provide emotional support and human connection to residents, many of whom face food insecurity or social isolation.
