Nilópolis suspends emergency services at municipal hospital

The Juscelino Kubitschek Municipal Hospital and Maternity in Nilópolis, Rio de Janeiro, has suspended services in its Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and emergency department. Mayor Abraão David Neto attributed the decision to a significant reduction in financial transfers from the Rio de Janeiro State Government.

According to the mayor, monthly funding for the facility dropped from R$ 5.6 million to R$ 1 million, and the current reduced payments are reportedly in arrears. The mayor stated that the municipality cannot sustain the hospital's operating costs alone.

While emergency and ICU services are suspended, the maternity ward, clinical inpatient beds, and elective surgeries will remain operational, funded through other resources. Residents requiring urgent care are advised to use the UPA in the Cabuís neighborhood, which remains functional.
