German parallel‑bars champion Nils Dunkel, 29, announced he will not compete at the 2026 European Gymnastics Championships in Zagreb (19‑23 August) because of an inflammation in his right hand. Dunkel said withdrawing was a difficult decision but necessary to recover before the World Championships in Rotterdam in October.

The German men’s team for the European event will be composed of multi‑event champion Radomyr Stelmakh, Alexander Kunz, Timo Eder, Gabriel Eichhorn, Lucas Kochan and ring specialist Artur Sahakyan, under head coach Jens Milbradt. The German Gymnastics Federation (DTB) confirmed Dunkel’s withdrawal and highlighted his focus on the upcoming World Championships (17‑25 October).
