Ânima play to perform at Teatro Alberto Maranhão in Natal

The theatrical production Ânima is scheduled for a unique performance at the Teatro Alberto Maranhão in Natal on Sunday, September 13. The play, written by philosopher Lúcia Helena Galvão, explores the interconnected lives of six women from different centuries and circumstances.

The narrative weaves together the trajectories of Simone Weil, Joan of Arc, Helena Blavatsky, Harriet Tubman, Hypatia of Alexandria, and Marguerite Porete. The production uses the metaphor of a weaver to connect these figures, who were marked by themes of persecution, slavery, intolerance, and societal limitations.

Directed by Luiz Antônio Rocha and starring actress Beth Zalcman, the play marks a reunion of the creative team behind the previous production, “Helena Blavatsky, a voice of silence.” The staging emphasizes oral tradition and manual gestures, intentionally contrasting with the use of technological resources like drones.
