NIMASA launches Blue-Green maritime enforcement operation

The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has launched a coordinated enforcement operation code-named ‘Blue-Green’ in key operational areas of Lagos. The initiative utilizes assets from the Integrated National Security and Waterways Protection Infrastructure, known as the Deep Blue structure, alongside specialized maritime security units.

The operation integrates intelligence gathering and analysis with real-time enforcement at sea. A new specialized intelligence capability within the NIMASA Deep Blue Command, Control, Communications, Computers, and Intelligence System (C4i) was deployed to improve the identification, assessment, and prioritization of vessels of interest. During the exercise, authorities boarded and inspected several vessels to verify statutory certifications, cargo and voyage documentation, and compliance with cabotage requirements.

NIMASA Director General Dr. Dayo Mobereola stated that the ‘Blue-Green’ model will become a recurring intelligence-led enforcement mechanism. The agency plans to expand these operations to other maritime regions, including Port Harcourt, Calabar, and Warri, to serve as a deterrent to criminal activity.
