NIMASA Secures IMO Council Seat, Opens Maritime Museum

The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) concluded 2025 with major achievements. Under Director‑General Dr. Dayo Mobereola, the agency secured Nigeria’s return to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Council for the 2026‑2027 biennium, ending a 14‑year absence. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu praised the win, linking it to Nigeria’s broader blue‑economy strategy and anti‑piracy efforts that kept Nigerian waters free of piracy incidents. NIMASA also hosted IMO Secretary‑General Arsenio Domínguez, underscoring the country’s renewed role in global maritime governance.

In parallel, NIMASA inaugurated a maritime museum at the Nigerian Maritime Resource Development Centre in Lagos. The museum, opened by Director‑General Mobereola and Director Aisha Jidda, aims to preserve and showcase Nigeria’s seafaring legacy, serving as an educational and research hub for the maritime sector.
