NiMet forecasts thunderstorms and dust haze across Nigeria
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather outlook predicting thunderstorms, rainfall, and dust haze across various regions of Nigeria from late October through early November.
In the northern regions, NiMet expects sunny and dry conditions with slight dust haze, though moderate haze is anticipated in Kano, Jigawa, Bauchi, and Kaduna states. Isolated thunderstorms with light rain are possible in parts of Kaduna.
The North-Central region is forecast to experience sunny skies with patches of clouds, alongside isolated thunderstorms and light rain in the Federal Capital Territory, Kogi, Kwara, and Nasarawa states.
Southern Nigeria is expected to face more significant weather activity. Cloudy skies will likely give way to thunderstorms and moderate rainfall across several states, including Delta, Bayelsa, Ondo, Ogun, Osun, Ekiti, Lagos, Oyo, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Imo, Abia, and Anambra.
NiMet has advised residents to take precautions against heat stress, particularly children, the elderly, and outdoor workers. The agency also urged individuals with respiratory conditions, such as asthma, to take necessary medical precautions due to the dust haze and warned residents to secure loose objects against potential strong winds.
