Nimrod Sesa inaugurated as Sorong Regency Regional Secretary

Nimrod Sesa has been officially inaugurated as the Regional Secretary (Sekda) of Sorong Regency in Southwest Papua. The inauguration ceremony was led by Sorong Regent Johny Kamuru on August 27, 2026, at the Aimas Hotel Convention Centre.

Regent Kamuru emphasized that the position is a career-based role determined by track record and loyalty rather than a political appointment. This follows previous protests from the Moi indigenous community, who had demanded the position be filled by a member of their tribe. Kamuru maintained that the appointment falls under the regent's prerogative and is based on the candidate's capabilities.

Following the ceremony, Nimrod Sesa, who previously served as the Secretary of the DPRK Sorong, committed to supporting the vision and mission of the Regent and Vice Regent. He stated his intention to strengthen coordination with all Regional Government Organizations (OPD) to ensure the effective implementation of local development programs. Southwest Papua Governor Elisa Kambu also attended, advising the new secretary to coordinate closely with all regional departments to support government policies.
