Nina and Vidar Svanemyr create Mediterranean‑style garden in Norway

Nina Svanemyr (44) and Vidar Svanemyr (55) have transformed the outdoor space of their Norwegian home into a year‑round Mediterranean retreat. Drawing inspiration from trips to the French Riviera and Bali, they rebuilt the pool area, added new stairs and tiles, and divided the garden into several zones. One zone features a large daybed surrounded by palms, olive trees and banana trees, while a bamboo‑walled summer house with a sofa and TV provides a comfortable indoor‑outdoor lounge.

The couple also installed a handcrafted wine‑cork holder, a half‑covered cabana beside the pool, and a custom‑made daybed built from timber, decking boards and wheels. Artificial grass and raised planting beds complete the landscape, allowing the “southern feeling” to be enjoyed even during Norway’s winter months.
