Nina Hoss stars in survival thriller Die andere Seite

The film “Die andere Seite,” directed by Mariko Minoguchi, premiered in German cinemas on October 22. The story follows a doctor, played by Nina Hoss, who loses her husband and son to a deadly virus. Also infected herself, she avoids medical camps and retreats into the wilderness to live a solitary life in a remote cabin.

As she attempts to survive by foraging, she is forced to flee after an encounter with hunters. During her journey toward the south and across the Alps, she encounters other social outcasts, including a young pregnant woman. The film depicts a dystopian world where characters seek to cross a border to reach a place where they are no longer persecuted by the military or civilian militias.

In an interview, Nina Hoss discussed the role of empathy in acting, noting that an actor must carry empathy to breathe life into characters. She suggested that the profession provides a perspective on diverse realities that prevents quick judgment of others.
