Nine Bangladeshis repatriated from India via Benapole

Nine Bangladeshi nationals, including two children, three women, and four men, have been repatriated to Bangladesh from India. The group had entered India illegally approximately three years ago after being deceived by brokers.

Following their detention by West Bengal police and subsequent prison sentences, the individuals were held at a shelter home in Dum Dum, Kolkata. They were returned to the Benapole checkpost on Saturday evening via special travel permits issued by the Bangladesh Sub-High Commission in Kolkata and exit permits from the Foreigners Regional Registration Office in Hyderabad.

The handover took place at the zero line of the Petrapole-Benapole international border, attended by immigration officials from both countries, the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), the Border Security Force (BSF), and representatives from non-governmental organizations. Upon arrival, the repatriated individuals were handed over to the NGOs ‘Justice and Care’ and ‘Rights Jessore’ to facilitate their safe return to their respective families.
