Nine Emperor Gods Festival concludes in Kuching

The Nine Emperor Gods Festival concluded its ninth and final day in Kuching, Sarawak, with large gatherings of devotees at local temples, including the Sungai Apong Nine Emperor Gods Palace and Nan Tian Men Da Sheng Gong.

Devotees traditionally wear white during the annual Taoist festival, which occurs during the ninth lunar month, to pray for prosperity, health, and blessings. Local leaders, including Kuching South City Council Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng and Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap, attended the celebrations.

Both officials emphasized the role of such religious observances in maintaining cultural heritage and fostering social harmony within Sarawak’s multicultural society. Mayor Wee noted that these events provide opportunities for people of different backgrounds to interact, contributing to the state's peace and mutual respect. He also encouraged religious institutions to support social welfare, education, and youth development beyond festive periods.
