Nine Taiwanese artists sentenced for military service evasion
Nine artists, including actor Tang Wu-chieh, have been sentenced in New Taipei City for evading mandatory military service. The defendants admitted to falsifying medical certificates to avoid their service obligations.
Due to their cooperation and confession, the nine individuals received suspended prison sentences ranging from three to four years. In addition to the suspended sentences, the court imposed economic fines and community service requirements. Tang Wu-chieh received a 1-year and 7-month prison sentence, suspended for three years, along with a fine of 300,000 TWD and 150 hours of community service. Liao Jen-shuai received the highest fine of 1.3 million TWD.
In total, the group must pay 5.8 million TWD in fines and complete 870 hours of community service. While the artists avoided immediate imprisonment, their criminal records will be permanently maintained. Any violation during the probation period will result in the immediate execution of the original prison sentences.
