Ninh Binh doctors race to save 7-year-old boy after container truck accident

Doctors at Ninh Binh Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital activated a hospital-wide “red alert” protocol to save a 7-year-old boy following a severe traffic accident involving a container truck. The child, identified as L. G. K., was being transported to school by his mother on a motorbike when the collision occurred.

Upon arrival, the patient was in critical condition with multi-trauma shock, including a crushed left leg, pelvic fractures, rectal injuries, and extensive skin and muscle lacerations extending from the buttocks to the back. A team of over 20 medical professionals from various departments, including emergency medicine, intensive care, anesthesiology, and pediatric surgery, worked to stabilize the child.

Medical interventions included intubation, mechanical ventilation, fluid resuscitation, and blood transfusions to manage life-threatening hemorrhaging. After six hours of emergency procedures, the medical team successfully stabilized the boy, who has been moved to the intensive care unit before being transferred to a higher-level hospital for continued treatment.
