Ninh Binh man dies after rescuing two children from drowning

A 67-year-old man, Nguyen Trong Khai, died while rescuing two children from drowning in Ninh Binh province. The incident occurred on October 10 in Giao Thuy commune when two children, born in 2012, accidentally fell into a local water canal near the Phan family sluice.

Mr. Khai, a former employee of the former Giao Thuy District Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, witnessed the accident and immediately jumped into the water to assist. Although bystanders helped bring all parties to shore, the two children were saved while Mr. Khai passed away.

Local authorities from Giao Thuy commune have visited the family to offer condolences and have issued a posthumous commendation to recognize his heroic actions. Officials are currently completing documentation to propose further formal honors from the Ninh Binh provincial authorities.
