Ninh Binh police arrest social media gangster Nguyen Minh Duc

Ninh Binh Provincial Police have arrested Nguyen Minh Duc, known by the alias ‘Duc Cong’, for the crime of organizing the illegal use of drugs. Duc, born in 1981, is a repeat offender with eight prior convictions and one administrative violation involving offenses such as public disorder, theft, intentional injury, and resisting law enforcement.

Investigations revealed that Duc utilized social media platforms, including two Facebook accounts (‘Ga Rung’ and ‘Duc Cong Nam Dinh’) and one TikTok account, to build a ‘social media gangster’ persona. By livestreaming and posting content regarding his past criminal activities and making provocative statements, he amassed over 115,000 followers. Authorities stated this behavior was intended to increase engagement for sales and platform monetization.

Police noted that Duc’s online presence has negatively impacted the perception of young viewers, potentially promoting deviant lifestyles and a disregard for the law. In addition to his social media activities, Duc maintained complex relationships with local drug traffickers. The case remains under investigation by the Ninh Binh Provincial Police.
