Nino de Angelo criticizes German Schlager music industry

Singer Nino de Angelo has criticized the German Schlager music industry, describing the public image of a harmonious, close-knit community as a facade. Speaking on Natascha Ochsenknecht’s “Wondermom” podcast, the 62-year-old artist claimed that while television shows present a “perfect community,” much of the reality behind closed doors involves envy and resentment.

De Angelo stated that many artists attempt to maintain a highly charismatic persona to drive record sales, but warned that failing to remain authentic can be damaging. He noted that several artists have been “broken” by the pressure to perform a persona, citing the late Rex Gildo and Roy Black as examples. Regarding Black, de Angelo remarked that while he could be funny after a few drinks, he was often depressed in private.
