Nino Kharatishvili awarded Winfrid Prize in Germany

Georgian writer Nino Kharatishvili has been awarded the 2026 Winfrid Prize in Fulda, Germany. The award recognizes her firm stance in defending European ideas and freedom against the backdrop of Russian imperialism.

The jury noted that Kharatishvili’s works explore critical issues in European history, specifically the consequences of the collapse of the Soviet Union and Russian imperialism. Her publication, ‘Europe, Wake Up!’, was highlighted for advocating for unified European thinking and the preservation of cultural achievements, providing significant intellectual impulses for Western society.

The Winfrid Prize, established by the Dr. H. G. Weider Foundation, is awarded annually by the city of Fulda to individuals who have made exceptional contributions to human rights and mutual understanding in Europe.
