Nintendo releases Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake for Switch 2
Nintendo is releasing a complete remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5, 2026. The title features a visual overhaul, modernized controls, and fully voiced cutscenes, aiming for a detailed world inspired by puppet theater and practical special effects rather than pure photorealism.
Producer Eiji Aonuma noted that the development team experimented with a fast-travel system but ultimately removed it to preserve the sense of discovery inherent to the original experience. The remake is part of the franchise’s 40th anniversary celebrations.
Retail and launch events have seen significant activity. A midnight launch in London included special N64 box replicas, while Walmart addressed preorder cancellations for Zelda-themed Switch 2 consoles, describing them as an error and offering customers a 48-hour window to repurchase. Additionally, reports surfaced of players accessing the game early via physical copies obtained through secondary markets.
