Nintendo announces US sale funded by tariff refunds

Nintendo of America has announced a “Customer Appreciation Sale” for customers in the United States, running from September 13 to September 26. The promotion features discounts of up to 30% on a wide selection of digital Nintendo Switch games, bundles, physical games, downloadable content (DLC), accessories, amiibo figures, and merchandise.

The company stated that the sale is “made possible in part by tariff-related refunds.” This follows a period where Nintendo and other tech companies faced high import fees due to widespread tariffs. After the Supreme Court ruled certain tariffs illegal, Nintendo successfully sought and received refunds from the government.

While the company is using these funds to finance the sale, it has previously maintained that customers are “not entitled” to direct refunds for the higher prices they paid when the tariffs were in effect. The move comes amid ongoing discussions and legal scrutiny regarding how companies handle tariff-related cost recoveries.
