Nintendo announces dual Direct broadcasts for Zelda anniversary and Switch 2
Nintendo has announced two consecutive Nintendo Direct broadcasts scheduled for September 8 and 9, 2026. The first event, titled ‘The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct’, will run for approximately 30 minutes on September 8. This special presentation is dedicated to celebrating the 40-year history of the franchise and is expected to provide updates on upcoming titles, including the highly anticipated remake of ‘The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time’ for the Nintendo Switch 2.
The second event, a general Nintendo Direct, will take place on September 9 and is expected to last around 45 minutes. This broadcast will focus on upcoming software for the Nintendo Switch 2, specifically targeting titles slated for release during the 2026 winter season and early 2027. Following the main Direct, a ‘Nintendo Treehouse: Live’ session is also expected to feature gameplay demonstrations.
Amidst these announcements, rumors have circulated regarding the development of the ‘Ocarina of Time’ remake. Reports from several Nordic retailers, including Elkjøp, briefly listed Monolith Soft as the developer for the project. While Nintendo has not officially confirmed the studio's involvement, Monolith Soft has a history of supporting Nintendo on major Zelda titles such as ‘Breath of the Wild’ and ‘Tears of the Kingdom’.
