Nintendo Switch 2 The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time Remake 40th Anniversary live-action movie

Nintendo has announced a major expansion of The Legend of Zelda franchise to celebrate its 40th anniversary. During a dedicated Nintendo Direct on September 8, the company revealed a ground-up remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, scheduled for release on November 5, 2026, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2. The remake features overhauled graphics, orchestral music, fully voiced cinematics, and modernized controls, including a dedicated jump button, sprint mechanic, and microphone support for playing the ocarina.

In addition to the game, Nintendo will release a Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition of the Nintendo Switch 2 on October 29, 2026. This hardware collection will feature Triforce-inspired designs on the console, dock, and Joy-Con 2 controllers.

Expanding beyond gaming, a live-action The Legend of Zelda film, directed by Wes Ball and distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing, is set to premiere in theaters on April 30, 2027. The film will feature an original story and is co-financed by Nintendo, which is providing more than 50% of the production costs.
