Nintendo announces Zelda 40th anniversary plans and Switch 2 titles

Nintendo has announced a major series of celebrations for the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda, centered around the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 console. A key highlight is the remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, scheduled for release on November 5, 2026. This remake will feature overhauled visuals, fully voiced cutscenes, and a microphone-based system allowing players to use melodies to interact with the game.

To commemorate the milestone, Nintendo will release a special 40th Anniversary Edition of the Nintendo Switch 2 on October 29, 2026. The console features a gold and metallic green design with Link and Zelda sprites on the Joy-Con 2 controllers. Notably, this special edition console does not include the Ocarina of Time game.

Other major announcements include a live-action film titled ‘The Legend of Zelda’, co-produced by Sony Pictures Entertainment and Nintendo, set to premiere in theaters on April 30, 2027. Additionally, a worldwide orchestral concert tour will begin in Tokyo on January 23, 2027, traveling through North America, Europe, and Australia. The Nintendo Direct also showcased various other titles for the Switch 2, including Monster Hunter Wilds, which is slated for release on December 4, 2026.
