Nintendo raises base salaries in Japan by 10%

At its 86th annual shareholders meeting in Kyoto, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa announced a company‑wide 10% increase to base salaries for employees in Japan. The raise is intended to retain talent amid rising manufacturing costs, a competitive job market and broader economic uncertainty. Furukawa said, “We maintain salaries at an appropriate level… we are implementing salary increases, such as raising the base salary by 10%.”

He also fielded questions on semiconductor pricing, which has contributed to a price increase for the Switch 2, and on generative AI. Regarding AI, Furukawa noted that Nintendo has used AI‑like tools for years, but that “the generative AI… comes with many challenges, including issues related to power consumption,” and the company will comply with evolving regulations to protect intellectual property.
