Nintendo digital sales exceed 60% of Switch revenue, revenue nearly doubles

Nintendo Co., Ltd. reported that digital software sales on its Switch platform now account for 61.5% of total software revenue, up from 59.3% in the previous quarter. The monetary value of digital sales jumped from 698 billion yen to 1,327 billion yen, an increase of about 90%.

The growth reflects a broader industry shift toward digital distribution, with Sony planning to cease disc releases for PlayStation from 2028 and Xbox reportedly evaluating the future of physical discs. Nintendo’s Switch ecosystem still supports a large base of physical‑media buyers, but the expanding eShop and strong demand for downloadable versions of flagship titles are driving the rapid rise in digital revenue.
