Nintendo dominates Japan video game market in July 2026

Nintendo dominated the Japanese video game market in July 2026, leading in software sales, hardware sales, and publisher rankings according to data from Famitsu.

Software debuts were led by Rhythm Heaven Groove, which sold 674,592 physical copies, followed by Splatoon Raiders with 474,684 units. Other notable titles in the top five included Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, Ganbare Goemon Daishuugo, and eBaseball Pro Spirit 2026. In total, Nintendo sold approximately 1.43 million software units, significantly outpacing Konami, which recorded 177,000 units, and Bandai Namco, which recorded 78,000 units.

On the hardware side, the Nintendo Switch 2 remained the top-selling console in Japan with 136,648 units sold, showing an increase from the previous month. The PlayStation 5 followed with 41,065 units sold.
