Nintendo GameCube celebrates 25th anniversary
The Nintendo GameCube marks its 25th anniversary, following its original launch in Japan on September 14, 2001. The console later expanded to North America in November 2001 and Europe in May 2002.
Alongside the hardware launch, Nintendo released the cult classic Luigi's Mansion, which introduced a survival horror-lite style to the franchise. The console's library featured notable titles such as Pikmin, Metroid Prime, Super Mario Sunshine, and The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. While it faced stiff competition from the PlayStation 2, Xbox, and Dreamcast, the GameCube sold approximately 21.74 million units worldwide and supported over 208 million games.
