Nintendo raises employee wages and reports Switch 2 as second‑fastest‑selling console

Nintendo said it will increase the remuneration limit for its directors and give all employees a 10% salary raise, citing rising living costs, inflation and a tight labour market in Japan. The move is aimed at attracting and retaining engineers and creative talent as the company prepares its next‑generation hardware and expands into theme parks and movies.

At the same time, Nintendo highlighted the commercial success of its new Switch 2 console, which sold 5.9 million units in its first twelve months. That makes the system the second‑fastest‑selling video‑game console ever, behind only the Game Boy Advance, and the best‑selling hardware of 2026 worldwide. Strong sales helped offset declines for competing consoles, with higher Switch 2 prices expected later in the year.

The combined announcements underscore Nintendo’s strategy to strengthen its workforce while capitalising on a fast‑moving hardware market.
