Nintendo sets March 2027 release for live‑action Zelda film

Nintendo announced that its live‑action adaptation of The Legend of Zelda will open worldwide on 26 March 2027. The film, produced by series creator Shigeru Miyamoto and veteran Marvel producer Avi Arad, will be directed by Wes Ball and marks a partnership with Sony Pictures. No cast or plot details have been released yet, but the schedule indicates production will move into active filming soon.

Earlier this year Nintendo’s Super Mario Galaxy movie generated over $1 billion in global box‑office revenue, reinforcing the company’s strategy of turning its video‑game franchises into major cinematic properties. The success of the 2023 Super Mario Bros. film, which earned $1.3 billion, helped establish Nintendo’s IP as a four‑quadrant brand and demonstrates the commercial potential of its upcoming Zelda project.
