Nintendo Switch 2 Game-Key Card challenges used game resale market

Nintendo's upcoming Switch 2 will ship games on Game‑Key Cards that contain only a download authorization rather than the game data itself. While the cards can technically be resold because they are not tied to a user account, the lack of long‑term server support and the need to keep the card inserted make them unattractive to collectors and second‑hand sellers. Industry voices, including former developers and analysts, criticize the hybrid approach as a clumsy compromise that erodes the value of physical media. CD Projekt Red demonstrated an alternative by placing the full Cyberpunk 2077 game on a standard Switch cartridge, showing that a non‑digital solution is still possible.

Separately, there is no official Sony tool to confirm whether a PlayStation 5 game or DLC code inside a used disc has already been redeemed. Users must manually enter the code in the PlayStation Store or check their account transaction history and library. If a code appears already used, the recommended recourse is to contact PlayStation support with proof of purchase.
