Nintendo Switch 2 leads Japanese console sales over PS5

In the Japanese gaming market, Nintendo Switch 2 significantly outperformed the PlayStation 5 (PS5) in sales during August 2026. According to estimates from VGChartz, the Nintendo Switch 2 sold approximately 112,849 units, which is more than triple the 33,832 units sold by the PS5 during the same period.

While the Switch 2 maintains a dominant market position with total estimated sales in Japan reaching roughly 6.42 million units, its August 2026 performance represents a 55.7 percent decrease compared to August 2025. Conversely, while the PS5 sold fewer units than its competitor, it showed year-on-year growth compared to the previous August.
