Nintendo reports 151% jump in operating profit amid IP revenue surge

Nintendo reported its first-quarter financial results for the 2026-2027 fiscal year, showing a significant 151% increase in operating profit to 143 billion yen. While net revenue decreased by 9.5% to 517.8 billion yen, profitability was bolstered by a 107.4% surge in IP-related revenue, which reached 34.8 billion yen. This growth was largely driven by the global success of "The Super Mario Galaxy Movie," which has grossed over $1 billion at the box office.

Regarding hardware, Switch 2 console sales fell 34.4% year-over-year to 3.82 million units, though the total installed base for the platform has reached approximately 23.7 million units. Despite the hardware decline, software sales for the Switch 2 rose by 9.2% to 9.46 million units, led by titles such as Mario Kart World, which has sold 15.39 million units.

Nintendo confirmed that it will increase the price of the Switch 2 in both the US and Europe to $499.99 and 499.99 Euro, respectively, effective September 1, 2026. Additionally, the company officially confirmed that a remake of "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time" is scheduled for release in 2026.
