Nintendo Switch 2 sales surge as company eyes Indian market expansion
Nintendo’s second‑generation Switch console has recorded strong early sales, with about 3.5 million units sold in its first days and a projection of 17 million by the end of 2025. The device’s price rose from €469.99 at launch to €499.99, and Nintendo, unlike Sony and Microsoft, has avoided large‑scale layoffs or project cancellations. The company is nevertheless coping with higher component costs due to US tariffs and faces criticism over its “Game Key Card” system and ongoing legal disputes.
Capitalising on its robust sales, Nintendo announced a strategic push into India, a market of roughly 1.5 billion potential customers where brand awareness for franchises such as Mario and Donkey Kong remains low. The plan involves large‑scale marketing campaigns rather than immediate product sales, aiming to build long‑term relationships with players and families. This move follows Nintendo’s recent loss of its partnership with Tencent and the planned shutdown of the Nintendo eShop in March 2026, which limited access for Chinese consumers.
