Nintendo Switch 2 with replaceable battery launches in Spain

A revised version of the Nintendo Switch 2 featuring a user-replaceable battery has launched in Spain. This hardware modification is designed to comply with upcoming European Union regulations regarding battery reparability, which are set to take full effect in February 2027.

While the console maintains its core functionality and gaming experience, the internal changes include a slight reduction in battery capacity from 5,220 mAh to 5,172 mAh and an increase in total weight of approximately 10 grams. The new design allows the battery to be replaced using easily accessible tools without requiring specialized manufacturer-only instruments. The Joy-Con 2 controllers are also expected to feature replaceable batteries.

In Spain, the console is currently available at Fnac for €469.99, though a price increase of €30 is scheduled to take effect on September 1. Distribution is expected to expand gradually across Europe, including Portugal, in the coming months.
