Nintendo Switch physical game sales stay strong amid digital shift
A recent analysis by NinPatentWatch shows that, for Nintendo Switch titles sold in packaged form, physical copies still account for around 60 % of revenue, with digital sales contributing roughly 40 %. Overall software sales for fiscal year 2026 reached 407.6 billion yen, of which 54.6 % were digital. Nintendo executive Shuntaro Furukawa reaffirmed that the company will continue to support physical formats, distinguishing its strategy from Sony Interactive Entertainment, which announced it will cease production of new physical PlayStation discs after January 2028.
In Spain, retailer Action is offering a limited‑time promotion on a selection of Nintendo Switch games for €9.95 each. Although the products come in physical packaging, they contain digital download codes rather than traditional game cartridges. The discount runs until 14 July, highlighting continued consumer interest in affordable Switch titles despite the industry's digital push.
