Nintendo apologizes for Zelda 40th Anniversary stock shortages

Nintendo has admitted to underestimating global demand for its 40th Anniversary The Legend of Zelda products, leading to widespread stock shortages of the special edition Nintendo Switch 2 console and themed accessories. Bill van Zyll, Nintendo’s Vice President and General Manager for Latin America, described the situation as a “global phenomenon,” noting that pre-orders and demand in markets such as the United States and Brazil significantly exceeded internal forecasts.

The company is currently working to replenish stocks of the anniversary hardware, Pro Controllers, and carrying cases. While specific replenishment dates have not been confirmed, Nintendo has asked customers to remain patient as production scales up to meet the high interest.

In addition to hardware shortages, details regarding the upcoming remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for Nintendo Switch 2 have emerged. Scheduled for release on November 5, 2026, the remake is expected to require approximately 27 GB of storage space. The title features overhauled graphics, orchestral music, and modernized gameplay mechanics, including manual jumping and a free camera system.
