Nintendo unveils Star Fox remake for Switch 2
Nintendo announced during a surprise Nintendo Direct that a full remake of the classic Star Fox title – originally known as Lylat Wars – will launch exclusively on the upcoming Switch 2 console on 25 June 2026. The game retains the original level structure but features completely overhauled graphics, new cinematics, expanded dialogue and additional challenges. It will support Joy‑Con 2 mouse mode for local co‑op, compatibility with the reissued Nintendo 64 controller for Switch Online subscribers, and an online competitive multiplayer mode. Priced at €49.99 for the digital version, the release marks the franchise’s first new entry since Star Fox Zero in 2016.
The announcement has reignited fan interest, with coverage also highlighting lesser‑known series details such as background characters and lore that were previously obscure. Nintendo’s timing follows the recent launch of the Super Mario Galaxy movie, underscoring a broader push for legacy franchises on the new hardware.
