Nio expands into mobile internet market in Brazil

Nio, formerly known as Oi Fibra, is expanding into the mobile internet market. The fixed broadband provider will begin offering new mobile plans on Thursday, October 1.

The service will have a national presence, providing access to 4G and 5G coverage depending on availability. Included in the plans are unlimited WhatsApp messages and audio, as well as unlimited SMS and national voice calls. For eligible plans, 5G is included as a benefit, with the company committing to fixed pricing until January 2030.

Nio will provide these services through a commercial partnership with Surf Telecom, a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) that utilizes TIM's network. The initiative aims to increase convergent telecommunications services, combining fixed broadband, mobile, and digital services like video streaming to improve customer loyalty. Marcio Fabbris, CEO of Nio, stated that 5G serves as a new growth lever alongside fiber.
