Nio recalls 686 Firefly EVs in China over steering risk

Nio is recalling 686 Firefly electric vehicles in China due to a potential defect in the steering system. The recall, filed with China's State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR), affects specific models produced between March 20 and April 2, 2026.

The issue stems from a manufacturing error where the torque sensor's wiring harness may physically interfere with the sensor's rotor. In extreme cases, this interference can cause abnormal signals, trigger the electronic steering warning light, and lead to a loss of power steering assistance, increasing driving risks.

Nio will inspect the affected vehicles free of charge and replace the wiring harnesses if necessary. Owners will be notified via mobile app, SMS, and telephone calls. Some vehicles may have already been repaired under previous inspections.
