NIPA to improve management of AI and software enterprise support

The National IT Industry Promotion Agency (NIPA) has proposed a comprehensive management plan to improve how government support for AI and software (SW) companies is tracked and evaluated. This follows inquiries from National Assembly member Han Jun-ho regarding the need to monitor cumulative support and actual growth outcomes for individual enterprises.

Data shows that between 2022 and 2026, approximately 5.22 trillion won has been allocated to AI and SW support programs. While the total number of supported companies across these years is 5,847, the number of unique companies is 3,087 due to multi-year support. Additionally, hundreds of companies were selected for multiple support projects within the same year.

The proposed improvement plan includes linking cumulative support history with performance metrics such as revenue, investment attraction, and employment. It also aims to prevent unnecessary duplicate support and coordinate similar projects across different agencies. Han Jun-ho emphasized that the Ministry of Science and ICT must establish concrete implementation plans and common management standards to ensure that government funding effectively translates into tangible business growth.
