Nippon Ichi Software evaluates AI use for development and localization

Nippon Ichi Software is evaluating the integration of artificial intelligence into its development processes, with a focus on improving quality rather than merely accelerating production. CEO Kenzo Saruhashi stated that while the company is researching AI applications, such as assisting in game localization to reduce the time gap between Japanese and Western releases, the technology will not replace human responsibility. The company aims to use AI as a support tool for human teams to ensure narrative consistency and translation quality.

Sohei Niikawa, creator of the Disgaea series and CEO of Superniche, expressed a different perspective regarding creative writing. While viewing AI as a potential tool for productivity and information retrieval, Niikawa stated he has “absolutely no interest” in using it to write stories or develop plots. He emphasized the importance of manual character and story modeling to maintain personal connection and creative value, noting that he prefers to craft every word himself rather than relying on automated systems for large-scale content production.
