Nirvana's impact on rock and unfulfilled South American tours

The release of Nirvana's 'Nevermind' on September 24, 1991, marked a significant shift in the musical landscape, transitioning grunge from an underground genre to a mainstream phenomenon. At the time of the album's release, the top of the music charts was held by Bryan Adams with the power ballad "(Everything I Do) I Do It for You," a track from the 'Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves' soundtrack that sold over 15 million copies worldwide.

Regarding their influence in South America, Nirvana visited Argentina and Brazil during the height of their career following the success of 'Nevermind.' While bassist Krist Novoselic expressed interest in performing in Chile during a 1992 interview, stating, "I would like to go to Chile, yes!" and suggesting a visit was "sure," the band never performed in the country. These potential performances were precluded by the death of frontman Kurt Cobain in Seattle on April 8, 1994.
