Nirvana's In Utero marks 33 years since release

The rock band Nirvana’s third and final studio album, In Utero, marks 33 years since its release on September 21, 1993. Following the massive commercial success of Nevermind, the band—consisting of Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic, and Dave Grohl—sought a less polished, more raw sound for this project.

Recorded alongside engineer Steve Albini, the album is noted for its abrasive and physical qualities. Albini famously approached the project with a manifesto-like philosophy, opting for minimal intervention to capture the musicians' true perception of their work. Notably, Albini declined royalties from the album's sales, accepting only a fixed fee of $100,000.

Decades after the band's dissolution and the death of frontman Kurt Cobain, Nirvana's music remains culturally relevant, with their lyrics continuing to resonate in popular culture and social media.
